Bhopal, March 2 (NationPress) Former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and prominent Congress figure, Digvijaya Singh, announced on Sunday that he was prepared to reveal a statue honoring the legendary tribal leader and freedom fighter Tantya Mama in Guna district; however, the state government intervened at the last moment to halt the ceremony.

He mentioned that the statue unveiling was to take place in a village predominantly inhabited by the Bhil tribal community in Raghogarh, Guna district, on March 3, but the area was cordoned off by the state administration.

Singh stated that upon inquiring with the Raghogarh Sub-Divisional Magistrate and the Guna District Collector regarding the reasoning behind the action, he was told that the intervention was due to a missing no objection certificate (NOC) from the state authorities for the statue's installation.

He highlighted that Pipaliya village, where the statue of Tantya Mama has been erected, boasts a significant population of Bhil tribals.

According to him, the community raised funds to honor Tantya Mama through the statue installation. “The statue was established after securing an NOC from the Pipliya grampanchayat. Both the Guna and Raghogarh district administrations were notified of the development,” Singh stated in a video message on Sunday.

Moreover, he reported that on March 1, a team from the Guna district administration visited the area and set up barricades.

“I was taken aback by the actions of the Guna district administration. I have requested the administration to present the guidelines regarding statue installations,” he remarked.

Singh alleged that the administration cited prohibitions from the Supreme Court and Madhya Pradesh High Court regarding the installation of statues or construction activities in public spaces, including roads, sidewalks, and other areas of public utility.

“If the Madhya Pradesh government has established any regulations regarding this matter since 2013, they should provide them to me. We will adhere to the rules, and the statue will be unveiled accordingly,” he asserted.

The Congress leader further contended that obstructing the statue's unveiling was a disrespect to Tantya Mama and the tribal community.

He warned that the Congress party would organize a protest if necessary.
