Chennai, March 9 (NationPress) The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has resolved to rally political parties throughout India to contest the Union government's proposed delimitation exercise.
This resolution was made during a gathering of DMK Parliamentarians at the party headquarters, 'Anna Arivalayam', led by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president M. K. Stalin.
Sources within the party indicate that CM Stalin has assigned significant ministers to visit various states and consult with regional political parties, urging them to join a collective action committee to examine the ramifications of the delimitation initiative.
State IT Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan will engage with leaders in Kerala, while Ministers EV Velu, Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, and TRB Rajaa will reach out to Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, and Odisha, respectively.
Moreover, DMK MPs have been instructed to collaborate with other opposition MPs in Delhi to mount a vigorous opposition against the delimitation exercise in Parliament.
The party has consistently raised alarms about this matter, along with its opposition to the Union government’s three-language policy.
In the forthcoming parliamentary session, the DMK intends to address several issues. In addition to delimitation and the three-language policy, the party will spotlight the delays in the distribution of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) funds, the refusal of flood relief aid, and the withholding of funds under the Samagra Shiksha scheme due to Tamil Nadu’s rejection of the National Education Policy (NEP).
This assertive approach follows criticism from opposition parties, including the newly established Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), led by actor Vijay, regarding the performance of DMK MPs in Parliament.
By taking a proactive approach, the DMK seeks to effectively counter these criticisms. Chief Minister Stalin has also condemned what he perceives as the Union government's discriminatory distribution of funds for language development.
He emphasized that while Tamil is spoken by approximately eight crore individuals, only Rs 74 crore has been allocated for its development.
In contrast, Sanskrit, with a considerably smaller speaker base, has received Rs 1,488 crore.
CM Stalin has been vocal about the BJP-led government's alleged attempts to impose Hindi on Tamil Nadu via the NEP's three-language policy. His opposition extends globally, as he recently endorsed a protest by the Tamil diaspora in the United States against this policy.
Tamil Diaspora Protests in the US A group of Tamil protesters in Dallas, US, recently rallied against the Union government's language policy, accusing it of undermining Tamil Nadu’s longstanding two-language system.
CM Stalin expressed solidarity with the protestors by sharing a news article and a video of the demonstration, utilizing the hashtag #VazhgaTamil.
The DMK's steadfast position against both the three-language policy and the proposed delimitation exercise underscores its ongoing resistance to what it views as efforts to undermine Tamil Nadu's linguistic and political significance.
