Haldwani, July 9 (NationPress) The Delhi Police apprehended a suspect on Wednesday involved in the heinous double murder of a woman and her six-month-old infant in the Majnu Ka Tila area of the National Capital.
The alleged perpetrator, named Nikhil, was captured in his hometown of Haldwani, Uttarakhand, merely a day following the horrific incident.
As per law enforcement officials, Nikhil, who had been in a live-in relationship with the victim, Sonal, attempted to take his own life after committing the murders. However, after his attempt failed, he fled to Uttarakhand to escape capture.
The Delhi Police are currently making necessary arrangements to transport him back to the capital for an extensive investigation.
The grim discovery was made on Tuesday when the bodies of Sonal and the infant, identified as the daughter of Rashmi, a friend of Sonal, were found in a residence located in Majnu Ka Tila.
This double murder has shocked the city, prompting an immediate response from multiple law enforcement agencies.
Initial investigations indicated that Sonal had recently relocated to live with Rashmi after ending her tumultuous relationship with Nikhil.
On the day of the tragic event, Rashmi had stepped out briefly, leaving her daughter and Sonal alone in the house.
Authorities believe that Nikhil took advantage of this situation to enter the home and allegedly murder both Sonal and the infant.
Upon receiving the alert, teams from the Civil Lines Police Station, along with forensic specialists and the Crime Branch, quickly arrived at the scene to initiate a comprehensive investigation.
Ongoing questioning of the suspect is underway, and additional information is expected soon.
This brutal crime follows closely on the heels of another double murder that occurred just four days prior in Lajpat Nagar-I, where a helper brutally killed 42-year-old Ruchika Sewani and her 14-year-old son Krish in a revengeful act.
In that earlier case, Mukesh Paswan, an employee of the Sewani family, reportedly entered their home around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Ruchika's husband, Kuldeep Sewani, was not present at the time. Mukesh allegedly murdered Ruchika in the bedroom, while her son Krish, who witnessed the attack, was subsequently killed in the bathroom where he attempted to hide.
Paswan was arrested the following day, Thursday, around 6 p.m. in Uttar Pradesh's Mughalsarai, while he was trying to escape to Bihar. He was intercepted by police at Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction and later confessed to the crimes.
