Kolkata, Oct 16 (NationPress) On Thursday, police further extended the cordoned-off area surrounding the gang-rape crime scene in Durgapur, West Bengal, as part of their ongoing investigation. The initial scene, located in a wooded area adjacent to the private medical college and hospital, was previously secured, but now an extra 50 meters has been added to the perimeter, prompting questions about potential new findings in the case.

On that same morning, law enforcement returned to the site with the victim's male friend, Wasif Ali, who had been arrested due to inconsistencies in his statements. Investigators are closely examining the accounts provided by him, the other five suspects, and the victim.

Sources indicate that the police aim to construct a comprehensive narrative of the events surrounding the incident, which led to the expansion of the original crime scene. A forensic team was also dispatched for further investigative efforts.

The victim, a second-year medical student from Odisha, was assaulted by five men in a forested area near the medical college in West Burdwan district on October 10. Following her report, all five suspects were arrested and remain in custody, while the male friend was apprehended later.

In response to the incident, the victim's father has called for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry to expedite justice, expressing intentions to leave Bengal for Odisha, never to return.
