New Delhi, Aug 7 (NationPress) The count of unorganised workers who have registered on the Centre's e-Shram portal for benefits under various social welfare and security schemes has exceeded 30.98 crore as of August 3, 2025, according to information presented in Parliament on Thursday.
The Ministry of Labour and Employment initiated the e-Shram portal on August 26, 2021, aiming to create a detailed National Database of Unorganised Workers (NDUW) linked with Aadhaar.
This portal is designed to register and assist unorganised workers by offering them a Universal Account Number (UAN) based on self-declaration.
The e-Shram portal functions as a facilitative platform aimed at consolidating beneficiary data for the effective delivery of social security and welfare schemes from the Central Government.
While it serves as a comprehensive solution for schemes linked to the portal, it does not act as a gatekeeper.
Eligible beneficiaries can receive benefits under these schemes regardless of their e-Shram registration status, as stated by Minister of State for Labour and Employment Shobha Karandlaje in a written response to a question in Rajya Sabha.
In line with the vision set forth in the Budget Announcement 2024-25 to develop e-Shram as a One-Stop-Solution for unorganised workers to access various social security schemes, the Ministry of Labour and Employment launched e-Shram – “One-Stop-Solution” on October 21, 2024.
The e-Shram – “One-Stop-Solution” includes the integration of multiple social security schemes on a single platform. This allows unorganised workers registered on e-Shram to access social security schemes and view the benefits they have received so far.
Currently, fourteen (14) schemes from various Central Ministries and Departments have been integrated with the e-Shram portal to provide benefits and access to social security, insurance, or skill development programs for e-Shram cardholders. These include Pradhan Mantri Street Vendors Atmanirbhar Nidhi (PMSVANidhi), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), National Family Benefit Scheme (NFBS), Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme (MGNREGS), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G), Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U), Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN), One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC), and Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY).
Furthermore, e-Shram is integrated with Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-dhan (PM-SYM), National Career Service (NCS), Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH), Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance (UMANG), Digital Locker (Digi Locker), myScheme, and Open Government Data Platform (OGD).
To assess the effectiveness of the e-Shram portal, a third-party impact evaluation has been undertaken by the Quality Council of India (QCI), the minister mentioned.
