Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Guwahati, March 25 (NationPress) The Election Commission of India (ECI) convened a crucial review and training meeting on Wednesday with District Election Officers (DEOs), Superintendents of Police (SPs), Commissioners of Police (CPs), and other officials in Assam in preparation for the forthcoming Assembly elections scheduled for April 9, as reported by officials.
The Commission reaffirmed its dedication to conducting elections in a “violence-free, intimidation-free, and inducement-free” environment, allowing voters to cast their votes without fear in a celebratory atmosphere, according to the official statement.
ECI senior officials undertook a thorough evaluation of electoral readiness, concentrating on essential elements such as law and order, security force deployment, logistics, management of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), and training of election personnel.
A particular focus was placed on guaranteeing Assured Minimum Facilities (AMF) at every polling station throughout the state.
The Commission instructed Presiding Officers to strictly follow transparency guidelines, which include providing signed copies of Form 17C—documenting the votes cast—to polling agents at the end of voting.
Officials were also directed to ensure that voter turnout data is updated in real-time on the ECINET app every two hours and after the conclusion of voting.
As per an official release, to boost voter awareness and engagement, DEOs are required to distribute Voter Information Slips (VIS) to all voters at least five days before the election, along with voter guides for each household.
The ECI also indicated that Braille-enabled VIS will be available to support visually impaired voters. Additionally, the Commission mandated that candidates and political parties seeking campaign permissions via the Suvidha module must receive responses within 24 hours in a transparent and fair manner.
Considering Assam’s challenging geography, particularly concerning riverine polling stations, officials were instructed to implement adequate safety measures and emergency readiness. The official highlighted that this review emphasizes the Commission’s commitment to meticulous planning and strict adherence to regulations to ensure smooth, free, and fair elections across the state.
