During the session, National Level Master Trainers (NLMTs) guided participants on crucial topics such as the maintenance of Law and Order, vulnerability mapping, and essential preparations for the election process. The training also covered aspects of expenditure monitoring and adherence to the model code of conduct, according to the official announcement.
Senior officials from the Commission assessed the readiness of the district administration and law enforcement agencies in anticipation of the upcoming general elections for the Legislative Assembly of West Bengal.
The senior team engaged in a comprehensive online discussion with the DEOs, SPs, and CPs, addressing all facets of electoral planning, which included confirming Accessible Mobile Facilities (AMF) at polling stations, managing Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), logistics, training for election personnel, seizures, law enforcement, and voter awareness initiatives, as detailed in the statement.
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, during his review visit to West Bengal on March 9, emphasized the need for elections to be conducted in a manner that is free from violence, intimidation, and inducements, ensuring that every voter can cast their ballot without fear.
Earlier, while presenting the election schedule, CEC Gyanesh Kumar announced that polling for the 294-member West Bengal Assembly will occur in two phases. The first phase will cover 152 Assembly seats on April 23, while the remaining 142 seats will be contested on April 29. The results are set to be declared on May 4.
On March 19, the ECI issued guidelines aimed at assisting elderly individuals, persons with disabilities (PwD), service voters, and those on election duty to utilize postal ballots in the forthcoming Assembly elections across four states and one Union Territory.
The Commission has declared, as per Section 60(c) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, that voters aged over 85 years and registered PwDs may cast their votes via postal ballot. The postal ballots must reach the respective Returning Officers (ROs) by 8 a.m. on the day of counting, May 4, 2026, as per the official communication.
