Kolkata, March 9 (NationPress) The Election Commission of India (ECI) is convening its full bench in West Bengal to assess the ongoing judicial process regarding voters' documents flagged as “logical discrepancy” cases and to ensure readiness for the significant upcoming Assembly elections. The meetings will commence at 10 a.m. on Monday with all registered political parties in the state.
The Commission's full bench, spearheaded by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, arrived in Kolkata from New Delhi on Sunday evening.
Upon arrival at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, they were welcomed by West Bengal's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Manoj Kumar Agarwal, alongside the Chief Secretary of the state, Nandini Chakraborty.
The initial agenda for the ECI's full bench will involve discussions with representatives from various registered political parties, each allotted a 10-minute timeframe for their presentations.
As the ruling party, Trinamool Congress is expected to receive the first opportunity to engage with the full bench of the ECI.
The six-member delegation from Trinamool Congress will include two Lok Sabha members, Mahua Moitra and Kalyan Banerjee, one Rajya Sabha member, Samirul Islam, along with West Bengal's Municipal Affairs and Urban Development Minister and Kolkata Municipal Corporation Mayor, Firhad Hakim, Minister of State for Finance (independent charge) Chandrima Bhattacharya, and recently retired acting Director General of West Bengal Police, Rajeev Kumar, who is anticipated to become a Rajya Sabha member for Trinamool Congress.
The meetings with the various political party delegations are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.
At approximately 12:30 p.m., CEO Manoj Kumar Agarwal will deliver a presentation to the Commission’s full bench regarding the judicial adjudication situation and electoral preparedness, lasting around 30 minutes as per the CEO's office schedule.
Following that, between 1:15 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Monday, the full bench will meet with representatives from various security and investigative agencies from both the state and central governments.
About 24 agencies will participate, along with district magistrates and district police superintendents.
On March 10, the Commission’s full bench will convene with senior bureaucrats and police officials from the state government, including Chief Secretary Nandini Chakraborty and the acting Director General of Police, Peeyush Pandey.
This meeting is slated to begin at 10 a.m., followed by a press conference led by the CEC.
The full bench will depart for Delhi later on March 10.
