Election Commission of India Plans Intensive Meetings During Two-Day West Bengal Visit

Kolkata, March 5 (NationPress) The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced on Thursday that its complete bench will embark on a two-day visit to West Bengal next week, featuring an extremely busy agenda.
As per the itinerary, the full bench, led by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, is set to arrive in Kolkata on the evening of March 8. During their stay on March 9 and March 10, the Commission will assess the current status of judicial adjudication of voters’ documents that fall under the “logical discrepancy” category, in addition to evaluating the preparation for the upcoming Assembly elections in West Bengal later this year.
A source from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), West Bengal, revealed that on March 9, the Commission’s full bench will convene meetings with representatives from various registered political parties from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, granting each party a 10-minute slot.
“At approximately 12:30 p.m., CEO Manoj Kumar Agarwal will present an overview to the full bench regarding the status of judicial adjudication and election preparedness, with the presentation expected to last around 30 minutes,” the insider noted.
Following this, between 1:15 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. on March 9, the full bench will engage with representatives from diverse security and investigative agencies, both state and central.
“Close to 24 agencies will participate in the meeting, alongside district magistrates and district police superintendents,” the source added, noting that this meeting will wrap up the day's activities.
On March 10, the full bench will meet with senior bureaucrats and police officials from the state government, including Chief Secretary Nandini Chakraborty and the acting Director General of Police, Peeyush Pandey.
“This meeting is slated to start at 10 a.m. and is anticipated to last around 10 hours. Subsequently, the full bench will meet with electoral registration officers, assistant electoral registration officers, and booth-level officers,” the insider stated.
The Commission’s full bench is expected to return to Delhi later on March 10.
