Lucknow, Dec 30 (NationPress) The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced updated timelines for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Uttar Pradesh, marking January 1, 2026, as the qualifying date. The final publication of the voters’ list is now set for March 6, 2026, according to an official statement released on Tuesday.
The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Uttar Pradesh shared on social media that the draft publication of the electoral roll will take place on January 6, 2026.
“The window for submitting claims and objections will be open from January 6 to February 6, 2026,” he mentioned.
“The notice phase, along with the decision-making on counting forms and the handling of claims and objections, will occur from January 6 to February 27, 2026. The final voter list for Uttar Pradesh will be published on March 6, 2026,” stated the CEO of UP.
On December 12, the ECI designated Special Roll Observers (SROs) for the thorough revision of electoral rolls in Uttar Pradesh and seven other states.
The SROs have been tasked with overseeing the SIR of electoral rolls in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan.
As per the ECI, the SROs have already commenced their duties and are anticipated to be present in these states twice a week until the final electoral rolls are published in February 2026.
“The SROs will hold discussions with the state and district leadership of all national and state political parties,” the ECI noted in its press release.
Additionally, the SROs will participate in meetings with the Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) and District Electoral Officers (DEOs) of the states, either in person or virtually, to guarantee the entire process is executed smoothly, transparently, and inclusively.
“The SROs will monitor the SIR process to ensure that no eligible voter is overlooked and no ineligible individual is included in the electoral rolls,” it added.
For Uttar Pradesh, which has the largest electorate in the nation, the ECI had previously extended the enumeration period until December 26, with the draft rolls originally scheduled for publication on December 31.
The extension aims to ensure comprehensive coverage and address administrative requests from the states.
