Will ECI Unveil TN's Final Electoral Roll on February 17? Voter ID Cards Set for Express Dispatch
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, Feb 8 (NationPress) The Election Commission of India has revealed that the definitive electoral roll for Tamil Nadu will be officially released on February 17 as planned. This marks the conclusion of a rigorous revision process aimed at guaranteeing the precision and clarity of voter records ahead of the Assembly elections.
As part of this special intensive revision effort, officials conducted a meticulous verification of the voters' list.
They identified and eliminated names of deceased voters, those who have changed their residences, and individuals lacking the necessary documentation to uphold the integrity of the database.
Following this careful review, the draft electoral roll was published on December 19 of the previous year, encouraging public feedback and new applications.
Citizens were given until Monday to submit requests for additions, corrections, and modifications to their entries.
The response has been substantial, with around 34.75 lakh applications received statewide. These consisted of requests for new registrations, address updates, and corrections to personal information. Election officials reported that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have been actively involved in verifying applications in-person.
Door-to-door checks, document evaluations, and field visits were conducted to confirm that only eligible voters were included.
According to the Commission, nearly 90 percent of the applications have already been processed, with the remaining verifications expected to be finalized by Tuesday.
Once this procedure is wrapped up, the updated and final electoral roll will be publicly available on February 17.
The list will be accessible in District Collector offices, Corporation offices, polling stations, and on the official Election Commission website.
Furthermore, the Commission has begun the process of assigning voter identification numbers to newly registered voters.
Printing of Elector Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) is currently in progress. Starting from February 17, these voter ID cards will be sent directly to applicants' residences via express post, ensuring prompt delivery and increased convenience.
Officials underscored that this comprehensive revision effort highlights the Commission's dedication to conducting free, fair, and inclusive elections by maintaining an accurate and up-to-date voter database throughout Tamil Nadu.
