When Will TN's Final Electoral Roll Be Published? Insights from CEO Archana Patnaik
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, Feb 15 (NationPress) The final electoral roll for Tamil Nadu is now set to be released on February 23, 2026, as announced by Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Archana Patnaik.
This publication date has been shifted from the originally planned February 17 in accordance with instructions from the Election Commission of India (ECI), following directives from the Supreme Court.
The adjustment is a direct result of the Supreme Court's orders in WP(C) Nos. 1072/2025 and 1145/2025, issued on January 29, 2026.
In compliance with the court's mandate, the ECI communicated on January 30 the need to publish lists of individuals with identified "logical discrepancies" during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.
The names of these individuals have been posted at local Gram Panchayat offices, public sites, Taluk and Sub-Divisional offices, as well as urban ward offices throughout the state.
This initiative aims to uphold transparency and afford affected voters the chance to address or rectify any discrepancies in their electoral records.
The ECI has stipulated that those on the discrepancy list will have a period of 10 days from the publication date to provide necessary documents or explanations, whether in person or through authorized representatives, including polling agents. This ensures that legitimate voters are not unjustly excluded from the rolls without a fair opportunity to respond.
Following the Supreme Court's ruling, the discrepancy lists have been released, and affected individuals are currently able to submit their representations within the designated timeframe.
The final electoral roll, which is part of the Special Intensive Revision with a qualifying date of January 1, 2026, will include corrections based on the feedback received.
The new publication date of February 23 has been set to allow for the completion of this essential process.
The Chief Electoral Officer stressed that the revision process is being conducted in a transparent and legally compliant manner to maintain the integrity of the electoral process in Tamil Nadu.
