Chennai, Jan 31 (NationPress) The final electoral roll for Tamil Nadu is set to be published on February 17, as confirmed by the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Archana Patnaik on Saturday.

The CEO highlighted that the state is currently engaged in a Special Summary Revision (SSR) of the electoral rolls in line with the directives from the Election Commission of India.

As part of this initiative, the draft electoral roll which includes voters who submitted enumeration forms during the enumeration phase was shared on December 19, 2025.

After the draft roll's publication, the Election Commission allowed citizens to file claims and objections from December 19, 2025, to January 30, 2026.

During this timeframe, eligible citizens whose names were not on the draft list, as well as those who turned 18, had the opportunity to apply for their names to be included in the electoral roll. New voters were required to submit Form-6 along with a declaration form.

Individuals wishing to challenge a proposed inclusion or request the removal of an existing registration were instructed to use Form-7.

Furthermore, voters seeking corrections to personal information, address changes, updates to the Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC), or identification as persons with disabilities were advised to apply via Form-8. The CEO noted that the claims and objections collected during this period are currently under review.

From December 19, 2025, to January 30, 2026, a total of 34,75,717 applications were received throughout the state, encompassing both online and offline submissions.

All applications will undergo scrutiny and processing at the district level by the respective Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), following the verification procedures outlined by the Election Commission.

Necessary inclusions, deletions, and corrections will be executed after assessing the eligibility and validity of each application. Once this verification and processing phase is concluded, the final electoral roll will be published on February 17, 2026, as confirmed by the CEO.

The updated roll will serve as the official voter list for forthcoming electoral processes in the state.

The Election Commission has reiterated its commitment to producing a comprehensive, accurate, and inclusive electoral roll, urging citizens to verify their details once the final list is released to prevent last-minute complications during elections.

Point of View

I believe that the timely publication of the electoral roll is vital for a robust democratic process. The Election Commission's efforts to ensure inclusivity and accuracy reflect their commitment to engaging citizens in the electoral process. It is essential for every eligible voter to remain vigilant and take the necessary steps to ensure their participation.
