Kolkata, Jan 21 (NationPress) Enforcement Directorate (ED) Director Rahul Navin is set to return to West Bengal. As per ED insiders, his arrival in Kolkata is scheduled for Thursday, marking the beginning of a three-day engagement.
Details surrounding the purpose of the ED Director's trip remain undisclosed. However, many speculate that this visit holds considerable weight, especially following the recent ED operations at the residence of Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) director Pratik Jain and the I-PAC office in Kolkata. These actions have led to escalating tensions with the state government.
Sources reveal that three additional legal advisors will accompany Rahul Navin to the state. Meetings with ED officials are on the agenda, and a discussion with CBI investigators could also take place.
On January 8, the ED conducted searches at the premises of I-PAC chief Pratik Jain. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present at both locations during the operation, accompanied by State Police DGP Rajeev Kumar and Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma.
It is important to note that I-PAC is currently managing the Trinamool Congress's strategies for the upcoming Assembly elections. The ruling party has accused the BJP of leveraging the ED to procure sensitive information related to candidate selection and electronic strategies.
During her visit, Mamata Banerjee was seen exiting the I-PAC office and Pratik Jain's residence with numerous documents, asserting that her presence was not as the head of state but as the 'Chairperson' of the Trinamool Congress.
Following her visit, the ED's response was swift, leading the matter to the courts. The situation has escalated to the Calcutta High Court and is now before the Supreme Court.
The ED has raised questions regarding Mamata Banerjee's involvement and that of state police. They are calling for a CBI investigation into the incident, with both central and state investigative bodies embroiled in a legal dispute linked to I-PAC.
In response, Kolkata Police and Bidhannagar Police have taken measures against the ED, which has filed a counterclaim in court. Presently, the court has ordered that no actions be taken against the ED.
As tensions persist between the state government and the ED, Rahul Navin's arrival in Kolkata is anticipated. He will convene with ED personnel at the CGO Complex in Salt Lake on Friday and is expected to return to Delhi on Saturday.
Sources indicate that ED officials are required to be present at the CGO Complex for the duration of the visit.
Notably, the ED Director had previously visited the state on January 9, 2024. Just days before that, ED personnel faced an attack during a search operation at the residence of expelled Trinamool leader Shahjahan Sheikh in Sandeshkhali. This incident sparked significant outrage across both the state and the nation.
