Kolkata, Jan 23 (NationPress) The Director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Rahul Navin, has requested information regarding the bureaucrats and police personnel from the West Bengal government who were present with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during her visits to two locations where ED officials were executing raid and search operations related to the alleged involvement of the Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) in a coal smuggling case earlier this month.
Navin, who arrived in Kolkata for a three-day visit starting Thursday evening, conducted an extensive meeting on Friday with ED officials from the agency’s Kolkata regional office to assess the progress of various high-profile investigations into suspected financial misconduct.
During this meeting, sources revealed that Navin sought comprehensive information from the investigating officials regarding the simultaneous raid and search operations at I-PAC’s office in Salt Lake and the residence of I-PAC co-founder Pratik Jain in Loudon Street on January 8, which were reportedly interrupted by the Chief Minister along with accompanying bureaucrats and police officers.
As the raids were ongoing at these sites on the morning of January 8, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accompanied by senior bureaucrats and police officials, visited both locations sequentially, according to sources. They claimed she departed after removing several files and electronic documents.
I-PAC has been functioning as the electoral strategy agency for the Trinamool Congress since 2020.
During the review meeting on Friday, ED insiders reported that Navin specifically inquired about the actions and demeanor of the bureaucrats and police officers who were present alongside the Chief Minister during the claimed interruptions.
Navin also allegedly probed the nature of the files and electronic documents that the Chief Minister’s team purportedly took from the two locations.
Additionally, the ED Director is said to have engaged with the agency’s legal team in Kolkata regarding this matter.
