Did ED Director Rahul Navin Demand Report on CM Mamata's Interruption During I-PAC Raids?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Jan 23 (NationPress) – On Friday, Enforcement Directorate (ED) Director Rahul Navin requested information regarding the bureaucrats and police personnel from the West Bengal government who were present with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during her visits to two locations where ED officials were conducting raids related to the alleged involvement of the Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) in a coal smuggling case earlier this month.
Navin, who has been in Kolkata for a three-day visit since Thursday evening, held an extensive meeting on Friday with ED officials from the agency's Kolkata regional office to assess the status of ongoing investigations into several high-profile cases of financial misconduct.
During this meeting, sources indicate that Navin sought comprehensive details from the investigating officials about the simultaneous raid and search operations that took place at I-PAC's office in Salt Lake and the residence of I-PAC co-founder Pratik Jain in Loudon Street in central Kolkata on January 8. These operations were reportedly disrupted by the Chief Minister along with accompanying bureaucrats and police officers.
As the raids were ongoing on January 8 morning, Mamata Banerjee, accompanied by senior bureaucrats and police officers, visited both locations sequentially, as per the sources. It was alleged that she departed after taking away several files and electronic documents.
I-PAC has served as the electoral strategy agency for the Trinamool Congress since 2020.
At the review meeting, insiders reported that Navin specifically inquired about the demeanor and actions of the bureaucrats and police officers present alongside the Chief Minister during the alleged interruption.
Navin also requested information regarding the types of files and electronic documents that the Chief Minister's team is alleged to have removed from the two sites.
Additionally, the ED Director engaged with the agency's legal team in Kolkata regarding this matter.
