Bhubaneswar, Oct 10 (NationPress) The elderly population plays a crucial role in achieving the vision of a prosperous India and establishing the nation as a Vishwaguru (global leader), remarked Nityananda Gond, Odisha's Minister for Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) Department, on Friday.
During the State-Level Senior Citizens’ Day 2025 event organized by the SSEPD Department, Gond emphasized that the state government is committed to resolving the challenges confronted by the elderly.
“Senior citizens are essential in realizing the concept of a Developed India and establishing India as a Vishwaguru (global leader). The government recognizes the issues faced by senior citizens and is actively working to address them. With guidance, blessings, and wisdom from our elders in various fields, we can achieve these national ambitions,” stated the SSEPD Minister.
He encouraged everyone to acknowledge and respect the contributions made by our elders on a daily basis. Gond highlighted that senior citizens are invaluable reservoirs of knowledge and life experience.
“Their insights and direction are critical in nurturing and advancing a healthy society,” the minister added. Bhubaneswar (Ekamra) MLA Babu Singh, who participated in the event, stated that it is a shared responsibility of all societal sectors to ensure that senior citizens receive the respect and social and economic security they deserve, rather than being viewed as burdens.
“We must always keep in mind that the elderly are not a liability. By embracing their experience, values, and blessings, we can pursue lives filled with happiness and tranquility,” he remarked.
During this event, senior citizens were educated on financial literacy, digital skills, and online safety. The gathering also included senior officials from the SSEPD department, numerous senior citizens, intellectuals, and representatives from community organizations.
