Bhubaneswar, Jan 15 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Odisha, Mohan Charan Majhi, inaugurated the upgraded pension scheme aimed at supporting elderly individuals and those with disabilities during a state-level event in Keonjhar district.

This initiative signifies the commencement of increased social security pensions for senior citizens aged 80 and above, as well as for differently-abled individuals with a disability percentage exceeding 80%. Previously, beneficiaries were receiving Rs 1,200 per month under the scheme.

The Chief Minister personally distributed enhanced pensions of Rs 3,500 to several senior citizens on stage.

CM Majhi underscored the importance of Keonjhar, his native district, as a revered region and discussed the state's commitment to expanding social welfare programs. He noted that over 4,17,496 people statewide, including 9,913 in Keonjhar, will benefit from this enhancement.

He expressed that the improved pension scheme is a vital move towards ensuring dignity and financial security for the elderly and disabled residents of the state.

Majhi pointed out that the government has honored its commitments within seven months of taking office, contrasting it with the shortcomings of the prior administration.

"Our government is persistently working towards the progress of Odisha and the welfare of farmers, women, laborers, and youths across the state. We prioritize the development of tribal and underprivileged populations, making sure all societal sections enjoy equal opportunities for happiness. The state government will operate according to the people's desires to ensure Odisha's growth," stated CM Majhi.

He reiterated that his administration has delivered on its promises made to the people of Odisha within seven months, differentiating it from the previous government's failures.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister announced that residents of Odisha will have access to free medical treatment in over 29,000 hospitals nationwide. Each panchayat will soon have an Ayushman Mandir providing free medicines and consultations. He also highlighted other flagship social welfare initiatives of the state government, including the Subhadra Yojana.

CM Majhi announced plans for a mega steel plant to be established in Keonjhar, with a memorandum of understanding for the plant to be signed at the Utkarsh Odisha event in Bhubaneswar in the last week of this month.
