New Delhi, Sep 23 (NationPress) With the recent GST rate reduction, the domestic electronics sector is experiencing a significant surge as we approach the festive season, coinciding with various online sales across e-commerce platforms, experts noted on Tuesday.
Industry analysts have expressed their approval of the GST decrease on air conditioners, televisions, and dishwashers, which has been lowered from 28 percent to 18 percent.
This long-awaited change will enhance the affordability of these appliances, stimulate domestic demand, and promote consumption—crucial factors for expanding India's electronics manufacturing sector, according to Pankaj Mohindroo, Chairman of the ICEA.
“We remain optimistic that future considerations will include reducing the GST on smartphones and laptops from the current 18 percent to 5 percent, which would further enhance affordability and support digital inclusion,” he stated.
Following the GST adjustments, consumer durable stores across the nation reported a considerable increase in customer traffic.
“We observed a substantial uptick on the initial day of sales. Positive sentiments are prevailing across all channels. Notably, we have identified a trend where consumer inquiries within the electronics sector are diversified across various product categories, indicating a robust consumer interest. We are anticipating an exceptionally vibrant festive season this year,” shared Tarun Pathak, Research Director at Counterpoint Research, with IANS.
The introduction of GST 2.0 marks a pivotal reform in India's taxation landscape. By streamlining the tax structure and ensuring predictability, it establishes a more robust foundation for growth—stimulating demand and facilitating business operations.
The revised GST framework, paired with festive season promotions, is likely to enhance smartphone sales through enticing discounts.
“Lower taxes enhance the affordability of devices, promoting upgrades and replacements. With increased disposable income, consumers are inclined to prioritize new acquisitions. Collectively, these elements could drive both premium and value-for-money smartphone purchases,” remarked Prabhu Ram, VP of Industry Research Group (IRG) at CMR, in his commentary to IANS.
