Srinagar, March 20 (NationPress) Former legislator of Jammu and Kashmir and BJP figure, Faqeer Mohammad Khan, tragically ended his life on Thursday in Srinagar. He was aged 62.
According to official reports, Khan shot himself inside a government residence located in the Tulsibagh area of the city.
It is reported that he accessed the almirah where his personal security officer (PSO) had stored the rifle while the officer was away for Namaz.
Khan was discovered in a pool of blood with the service rifle of his PSO beside him, as per sources.
He was rushed to the hospital, where medical personnel pronounced him dead upon arrival.
The police have initiated a case regarding this incident and commenced an investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding it, officials confirmed.
The reasons behind his drastic decision remain unclear at this time.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah made this announcement during the ongoing Jammu and Kashmir Assembly session.
The Assembly observed a two-minute silence to honor his memory and express respect.

Khan contested the recent Assembly elections in 2024 as a BJP candidate from the Gurez Assembly constituency in Bandipora district but faced defeat against Nazir Ahmad Khan Gurezi of the National Conference (NC).
Previously, Khan won the Assembly elections in 1996 from the Gurez constituency as an Independent and joined the BJP in 2020.
Last year, legislative Assembly elections were conducted in the union territory after successful, participatory Lok Sabha elections. In the Assembly elections, NC secured 42 seats, BJP 29, Congress 6, PDP 3, CPI(M) 1, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) 1, PC 1, and Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) 1. Additionally, six Independents emerged victorious.
The BJP claimed all 29 Assembly seats from the Jammu division but failed to secure any seats in Kashmir.
