What Happened to the Family Found Dead in Hooghly?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Nov 1 (NationPress) In a tragic occurrence in Hooghly district of West Bengal, three family members were discovered deceased in their home located in Champdani on Saturday, as reported by the police.
The individuals who lost their lives have been named as Mohammad Keyamuddin (40), his spouse Mumtaz Parveen (32), and their eight-year-old daughter Afsa.
The bodies of Parveen and Afsa were found on a bed, while Keyamuddin was hanging from the ceiling, a veil around his neck.
Initial investigations indicate that Keyamuddin might have poisoned his wife and daughter prior to his own suicide.
Police sources revealed that a note inscribed on a green wall mentioned seven other relatives, with the numeral “7” written in English beneath the list.
Investigators are exploring whether Keyamuddin’s note implicates those named in the deaths.
Keyamuddin, employed as a clerk at the Barrackpore court in North 24 Parganas, reportedly had a tumultuous relationship with his brother and was struggling with financial issues.
He had allegedly accrued significant debts and had urged his father to sell a portion of the family land, a request his father denied due to concerns for their future.
The parents of the couple, both suffering from paralysis, reside in a separate nearby home.
Authorities are also investigating claims that Keyamuddin had secretly remarried five years ago, and a woman from Barrackpore recently accused him on social media.
The deceased have been sent to Chunchura Imambara Hospital for autopsy.
Chandannagar Police Commissionerate Deputy Commissioner Ishani Pal stated, “Preliminary findings suggest family discord as a potential cause. The precise cause will be established post-autopsy. A comprehensive investigation is currently in progress.”
