Guwahati, Feb 22 (NationPress) Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Sunday that the cabinet will decide on the establishment of a fast-track court to investigate the death of renowned Assamese singer Zubeen Garg in the upcoming cabinet meeting scheduled for next week.

In a statement to the press, Sarma remarked, "A cabinet meeting is set for February 26 to deliberate on forming a fast-track court for the investigation into Zubeen Garg's death. We will make a decision that aligns with the sentiments of the Assamese people."

The Chief Minister also criticized the Congress party for politicizing Zubeen Garg's tragic passing, accusing them of exploiting public emotions to gain votes in the forthcoming Assembly elections.

Directing his comments towards Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who visited Zubeen Garg's cremation site during her recent trip to Assam, CM Sarma stated, "The Congress party is attempting to utilize Zubeen Garg's situation to sway votes, which I find very inappropriate. I question Priyanka Gandhi's motives for visiting only Garg's cremation site; she could have also honored Bhupen Hazarika and other esteemed Assamese figures if her intentions were sincere towards the people of Assam. We have deliberately kept Zubeen Garg's case out of politics."

Earlier, the Chief Minister expressed awareness of the public's strong emotions regarding the case and assured that the legal process would be honored.

He emphasized that the administration is dedicated to ensuring both transparency and fairness in the investigation while respecting legal protocols.

The incident surrounding Zubeen Garg has garnered significant public interest over the past months, with various organizations, fans, and civil society groups advocating for expedited justice and clarity.

Demonstrations and social media appeals have called for prompt action, highlighting the cultural importance of the singer and the deep emotional connection he holds with the people of Assam.

Zubeen Garg, one of Assam's most celebrated cultural figures, boasts a vast following across generations.

The Chief Minister urged the populace to maintain peace and have faith in the legal system, cautioning that speculation and misinformation could hinder the investigation.

Zubeen Garg tragically passed away during a sea outing in Singapore on September 19 of last year.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) appointed by the Assam government has implicated four individuals, including the singer's manager, bandmates, and a festival organizer, in his death.

This matter is expected to remain prominent in Assam's political discussions as the state approaches the Assembly elections, with calls for fast-track court proceedings in Zubeen Garg's death gaining momentum.
