Visakhapatnam, Oct 20 (NationPress) A tragic incident occurred in Parvathipuram, Andhra Pradesh, on Sunday, resulting in the death of one individual and injuries to five others due to the explosion of a parcel containing firecrackers.
During the afternoon, six porters were injured at the ANL courier parcel center located within the APSRTC complex. Law enforcement quickly arrived on the scene to transport the injured to medical facilities.
Among the injured, three porters faced serious injuries while the other three had minor ones. All were admitted to the Regional Area Hospital, with those in critical condition subsequently transferred to Visakhapatnam.
Sadly, one of the critically injured, identified as Ramesh, passed away at a private medical facility later that evening.
The local minister in charge, K. Atchenaidu, along with Home Minister V. Anitha, expressed their sorrow regarding the incident and instructed district officials to provide the best possible care for the injured.
Both ministers communicated with the district Collector and Superintendent of Police to gather more information about the situation.
An investigation has been initiated, revealing that some traders had purchased the firecrackers and sent the parcel from Vizianagaram, intended for delivery in Parvathipuram. It exploded during handling, injuring the six porters, one of whom later died.
Disturbing television footage from the explosion scene shows porters suffering from severe burn injuries on the ground, prompting a fire-tender to respond quickly.
The explosion instigated panic in the bustling area of Parvathipuram, the administrative center of Parvathipuram Manyam district.
This incident is particularly concerning as firecrackers are prohibited on Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) buses due to explosion risks. There appears to have been negligence by staff in accepting the parcel in Vizianagaram.
MLA Bonela Vijaya Chandra visited the explosion site and communicated with the injured. He urged police to conduct a thorough investigation into the event and criticized ANL parcel authorities for allowing the transportation of firecrackers despite the existing ban.
