Major Blaze in Ghaziabad's Indirapuram Slum Area: No Casualties Reported
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
On April 16, a significant fire erupted in a slum settlement and an adjacent scrap warehouse in the Kanawani region, falling under the jurisdiction of the Indirapuram police station in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. This incident caused widespread alarm among local residents and activated a prompt response from the district authorities.
Officials reported that the fire started in an area housing approximately 150–200 shanties, alongside facilities engaged in scrap activities, which potentially accelerated the fire's spread.
Thick clouds of smoke were visible in the vicinity, raising alarm among nearby inhabitants.
District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar Mandar, who arrived at the scene to assess the situation, confirmed that fire trucks were dispatched immediately following the report of the incident.
"Upon receiving the alert, fire teams were sent to the location right away, and currently, seven teams are actively working to bring the fire under control," he stated.
The authorities acted swiftly to prevent the situation from escalating into a major catastrophe.
As a safety measure, ambulances were stationed at the site to manage any potential medical emergencies.
"To avert any casualties, ambulances have been deployed here. All our officials, magistrates, and police personnel are on-site, including myself," the District Magistrate added.
Firefighters worked diligently to extinguish the flames and prevent them from advancing into more densely populated areas.
The presence of flammable scrap materials posed an additional challenge for firefighting teams.
Officials confirmed that the fire has now been largely contained and is expected to be completely extinguished shortly.
"As of now, no casualties have been reported. All our teams are present at the scene," District Magistrate Mandar reassured the public amid initial fears.
There was also a significant police presence to maintain order and support the rescue and firefighting efforts.
"An adequate number of fire brigade units and sufficient police force are deployed," he noted.
The precise cause of the fire remains undetermined, and an investigation will take place once the situation is fully stabilized.
Meanwhile, authorities are evaluating the extent of the damage inflicted on the shanties and scrap units.
