Flight Cancellations Across India Triggered by US-Israel Strike on Iran
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 1 (NationPress) The recent US-Israel military action against Iran has led to significant flight disruptions and cancellations for passengers throughout India.
In Maharashtra, many travellers reported extensive waiting times and cancelled flights.
One passenger shared with IANS, "Our flight was set for 8:30, but it was cancelled. We're currently awaiting the next flight, and we plan to leave as soon as it departs."
At Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, nearly 98 flights were cancelled as airlines prioritized safety concerns.
Chandigarh airport officials confirmed issues with air traffic management. On Saturday, only one Dubai-bound flight was cancelled, but by Sunday, both incoming and outgoing flights to Dubai were affected.
Thiruvananthapuram International Airport also experienced significant disruptions, with 17 flights arriving and departing cancelled, leaving numerous passengers stranded.
These cancellations are part of a broader regional upheaval following a joint US-Israel strike on Iran, prompting retaliatory actions from Tehran against Israeli and US military installations in various Gulf nations. This has resulted in multiple countries in the region closing their airspace and suspending civilian air traffic.
Nepal also felt the impact, with over a dozen scheduled flights between Nepal and Gulf cities cancelled on Saturday.
The Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) Authority, under the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), reported that 14 flights from Kathmandu to West Asian destinations, including arrivals from those areas, were cancelled.
Airlines affected include Nepal Airlines, Himalaya Airlines, Qatar Airways, Air Arabia, Fly Dubai, and Kuwait Airways, with Himalaya Airlines cancelling six flights, the most among the carriers.
The extensive flight cancellations have left many passengers stranded, creating overcrowding at terminals as people awaited further information. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and encourage passengers to verify flight schedules before heading to airports.
