Visakhapatnam, Dec 2 (NationPress) A former official of the Steel Authority of India Limited has been sentenced to three years in prison by the CBI Court in Visakhapatnam for a case involving disproportionate assets.
The court found Ragam Kishore, who served as the Regional Manager for Branch Transport and Shipping at SAIL, Visakhapatnam, guilty and sentenced him to three years’ imprisonment due to his involvement in the disproportionate assets case.
In addition to the prison term, the court levied a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the offender.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) disclosed that this case was filed on July 17, 2001. It was alleged that from January 1, 1988, to April 19, 2000, R. Kishore, while serving as a public servant at SAIL, accumulated both movable and immovable assets that were significantly greater than his known income.
The total value of these assets was Rs 60,25,825.65, which he could not justify satisfactorily.
Following the investigation, the CBI submitted a chargesheet on August 5, 2003.
After the trial concluded, the court convicted and sentenced the defendant accordingly, as reported by the CBI.
According to the agency, Ragam Kishore retired as Assistant General Manager at Steel Authority of India Ltd., Kolkata.
In a related case, the CBI Court in Hyderabad sentenced two postal assistants to two years of rigorous imprisonment for misappropriating Rs 27.27 lakh during the demonetization phase. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 65,000 on each of them.
