Patna, July 18 (NationPress) During a notable event at Motihari’s Gandhi Maidan, Bihar's Chief Minister Nitish Kumar made a groundbreaking announcement alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi, revealing that the state will offer free electricity to every household, pending approval in the upcoming state cabinet meeting.
In front of a large audience, CM Nitish Kumar stated: “We have great respect for you, Prime Minister. We've taken your advice to heart and will move forward with the initiative to provide free electricity. This proposal will be ratified this evening.”
He criticized former administrations, claiming: “Before 2005, no significant work was accomplished; the conditions were dire, lacking roads and infrastructure. Since we formed a government together, we have dedicated 20 years to development. Previously, the budget was merely Rs 24,000 crore under the RJD and Congress; now, it has surged to over Rs three lakh crore.”
CM Kumar emphasized the government’s commitment to job creation: “We have facilitated 10 lakh government positions, and overall employment has reached 29 lakh. Our goal is to provide job opportunities for one crore youth in the next five years.”
“In the past, even Patna experienced electricity shortages, with just eight hours of supply. Today, electricity is accessible everywhere. We plan to offer 125 units of free electricity to all families in Bihar.”
The Chief Minister highlighted that this decision was made collaboratively with the Prime Minister, reinforcing their commitment to a “double-engine” government.
Pointing towards PM Modi, he remarked, “We have immense respect for you; our efforts are aimed at benefiting everyone by heeding your advice. I also wish to inform the public about the numerous welfare initiatives that PM Narendra Modi is implementing for the residents of Bihar.”
This announcement arrives at a pivotal moment as the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections approach, signaling a substantial populist strategy by the NDA government in Bihar to strengthen its appeal among both rural and urban voters.
