Patna, July 17 (NationPress) In a significant initiative just before the Assembly Elections, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar made a noteworthy announcement on Thursday, declaring that every household in Bihar will receive 125 units of free electricity monthly. This measure is aimed at providing relief and empowerment to the citizens.
In a social media update, Nitish Kumar revealed that starting from August 1, 2025 (for the July billing cycle), all domestic electricity consumers will benefit from this scheme, impacting 1.67 crore families across the state.
Moreover, CM Nitish Kumar shared plans to install solar power plants on rooftops or nearby public areas with the agreement of domestic users over the next three years, targeting a generation of up to 10,000 MW of solar energy in Bihar.
Under the 'Kutir Jyoti Yojana', the state government will fully subsidize the installation of solar panels for the most impoverished families, while others will receive assistance to transition to solar energy.
The Chief Minister reiterated the administration's commitment to delivering electricity at reasonable rates, now taking further steps to alleviate the financial strain on households while advancing renewable energy initiatives in Bihar.
Reacting to the announcement, JD(U) MLC Neeraj Kumar termed the move a “master stroke” by CM Nitish Kumar ahead of the elections, stressing that the scheme will be beneficial for individuals of all castes and religions in Bihar.
He highlighted that when Nitish Kumar assumed office in the state, he extinguished the lanterns in the homes of the underprivileged and backward classes, and now he is lifting the burden of electricity costs to enable uninterrupted education for future generations.
“This will deliver a 33,000-volt jolt to those intent on keeping Bihar in darkness,” Neeraj Kumar stated, emphasizing the initiative as a pivotal step towards social transformation in the state.
Earlier, Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of Opposition in Bihar, had pledged to provide 200 units of free electricity if he were to gain power in Bihar.
