Patna, Aug 12 (NationPress) Bihar's Chief Minister Nitish Kumar engaged with electricity consumers across various districts through video conferencing to discuss the state's free electricity initiative, which offers up to 125 units of electricity at no charge.
He described this program as a transformational measure aimed at enhancing the lives of everyday citizens.
“The provision of free electricity for up to 125 units is significantly aiding 1.89 crore households in Bihar. This is a groundbreaking initiative for the benefit of the common populace. Additionally, we are advancing solar energy initiatives—solar panels are being installed on all government structures, and the government is ready to assist any consumer wishing to install it in their homes,” said CM Nitish.
Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary emphasized that, in contrast to other states, where exceeding the subsidized limit by even one unit results in full billing, Bihar's approach only charges consumers for the units consumed beyond 125.
“The Bihar government, led by CM Nitish Kumar, is providing a total electricity subsidy of Rs 20,000 crore,” he mentioned.
Bihar's Energy Minister Vijendra Yadav urged residents to use electricity judiciously.
“Please do not waste electricity just because it is free,” he warned.
The state has commenced directly crediting the subsidy amount for July into consumer accounts, and consumption under 125 units in August is exempt from any recharge. To raise awareness, special programs are being conducted at 3,000 locations throughout Bihar.
During the session, around 15 lakh consumers provided their feedback and shared experiences with the Chief Minister. The main event took place at the Energy Department auditorium in Patna, attended by CM Nitish, Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary, Energy Minister Yadav, and several other prominent figures.
The government has also revamped electricity bills to include a photo of CM Nitish, which serves as both an informative tool and a means of political image enhancement.
