Shamli (Uttar Pradesh), April 14 (NationPress) In anticipation of the launch of the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari conducted a visit on Tuesday to evaluate the inaugural 'Rest-Hold Area' established along the route in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district.
During his visit, officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) welcomed the minister and provided updates regarding the amenities available at the rest area.
Later in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to inaugurate the Delhi–Dehradun Economic Corridor. Before the ceremony, he will assess a wildlife corridor constructed along the elevated stretch of the project and also pay a visit to Uttarakhand for prayers at a Kali temple.
Shamli residents voiced their optimism regarding the initiative, asserting that it would enhance local employment opportunities and significantly improve connectivity.
Local resident Anil Pundhir remarked to IANS, "Union Minister Nitin Gadkari visited the 'Rest-Hold Area,' engaging with the community during his brief stay. The economic corridor is expected to create numerous job opportunities and drastically reduce travel time between Delhi and Dehradun."
There was palpable enthusiasm among locals as the corridor's inauguration approached, with many expressing gratitude to the government for this initiative.
Another resident shared, "This development will greatly benefit our area. It's exciting to know we can now travel from Delhi to Dehradun in just a few hours."
He continued by stating that the project would facilitate easier travel between Delhi and Dehradun, also benefiting adjacent towns and rural locales, with the community eagerly anticipating this advancement.
Additionally, local resident Satish Chauhan expressed, "Thanks to this route, neither Delhi nor Dehradun feels far away for us anymore. We can reach our destinations with much more ease. Nitin Gadkari took the time to meet with the people gathered near the 'Rest-Hold Area,' and we were all thrilled to greet him."
As part of his agenda, the Prime Minister will review the wildlife corridor built on the elevated section of the expressway in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, before visiting the Jai Maa Dat Kali Temple to offer prayers and seek blessings.
The Prime Minister will then inaugurate the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor at a public event in Dehradun, where he is expected to address attendees.
Once operational, this corridor is projected to significantly shorten the travel time between Delhi and Dehradun from nearly six hours to approximately two-and-a-half hours, marking a substantial enhancement in regional connectivity and economic activity.
