New Delhi, July 18 (NationPress) Expressing support for Robert Vadra, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi declared on Friday that the charges against his brother-in-law are merely a result of years of ‘political witch hunt’ orchestrated by the central government.
The Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha took to social media to voice his discontent regarding the recent charges framed against Robert Vadra, the businessman spouse of Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi, by the central investigative agency.
LoP Gandhi asserted that his brother-in-law has been relentlessly pursued by the BJP administration for the past decade and pledged to stand by him and his family.
“I stand with Robert, Priyanka, and their children as they confront yet another wave of malicious, politically-driven accusations and harassment,” he expressed on X.
He continued, “I am confident that they possess the courage to endure any form of persecution and will carry on with their heads held high. In the end, the truth will emerge victorious.”
Robert Vadra's issues intensified on Thursday when the ED submitted a chargesheet against him in a money laundering case related to a land transaction in Haryana’s Shikohpur area.
This marks the first instance where any investigative body has lodged a prosecution complaint against the 56-year-old businessman concerning the land deal.
The prosecution complaint, presented before the Delhi Rouse Avenue Court under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), named a total of 11 accused individuals/entities, including Robert Vadra along with his Sky Light Hospitality, Satyanand Yajee, Kewal Singh Virk, and Onkareshwar Properties.
According to the ED’s chargesheet, Vadra's Skylight Hospitality “illegally” acquired 3.53 acres of land located in the village of Shikohpur in Haryana's Gurugram district for Rs 7.5 crore from Onkareshwar Properties through “false declarations”.
The controversial land deal occurred in February 2008 when Congress was in power in Haryana, with Bhupinder Singh Hooda serving as chief minister.
Remarkably, the mutation process, which typically lasts for months, was finalized the very next day. Later, Vadra obtained permission to develop a housing society on the land, significantly increasing its value. He subsequently sold it to DLF in June for Rs 58 crore.
