New Delhi, July 18 (NationPress) A new political uproar has emerged following the Enforcement Directorate (ED) unveiling a chargesheet against Robert Vadra, a businessman and spouse of Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi, who is also the brother-in-law of Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha. This action is tied to an alleged money laundering case involving a land deal in Shikohpur, Haryana.
The Congress party has rallied in support of Vadra, labeling the ED's action as a politically charged maneuver, while asserting that the truth will ultimately come to light.
Senior Congress leader Pramod Tiwari drew comparisons to historical instances of political vendetta, stating, “History bears witness — in 1977 against Indira Gandhi, in 1989 against Rajiv Gandhi, and now the BJP is following the same trend. False accusations are being leveled against Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and her spouse via the ED and CBI. But as always, 'Satyamev Jayate — truth will prevail,'” he commented to IANS.
Congress MP Imran Masood also chimed in, asserting, “This is evidently driven by political enmity. If the claim is that someone profited fourfold from a deal, why not investigate those who profited by 100 or 1,000 times? Let everything be disclosed openly.”
Conversely, the BJP maintained its firm position. Senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad accused the Congress of engaging in land grabs during its governance.
“Rahul Gandhi should clarify how and from where these lands were sourced. The Congress administration coerced farmers into selling their land unjustly,” he remarked to IANS.
BJP's National General Secretary Tarun Chugh alleged, “The Congress is the origin of all scams. Between 2004 and 2014, the nation suffered a loss of Rs 12 lakh crore due to corruption. The Gandhi family is already out on bail in the National Herald case. Now, the son-in-law is also permitted to pillage. This is why the Indian populace has permanently turned its back on the Congress.”
Earlier, LoP Gandhi expressed strong backing for Vadra, characterizing the ED’s chargesheet as a result of a decade-long campaign by the ruling BJP.
Taking to the social media platform 'X', LoP Gandhi stated, “I stand with Robert, Priyanka, and their children as they endure yet another wave of malicious, politically-driven defamation and harassment. I trust they will confront this persecution with grace. The truth will ultimately come to light.”
Vadra has again drawn attention after the ED filed its inaugural prosecution complaint against him regarding the alleged land scam.
The complaint, presented to the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), named 11 individuals and entities, including Vadra’s firm Skylight Hospitality, Satyanand Yajee, Kewal Singh Virk, and Onkareshwar Properties.
According to the ED, Skylight Hospitality “fraudulently” acquired 3.53 acres of premium land in Shikohpur, Gurugram, for Rs 7.5 crore via false declarations. This land transaction has been under scrutiny by central agencies, but this marks the first formal legal action in the shape of a chargesheet.
