New Delhi, Dec 4 (NationPress) The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has committed to voicing the concerns of Delhi's farmers in Parliament, claiming that the Union government is unlawfully taking away villagers' farmlands to benefit affluent individuals.
Sharing a video from his meeting with farmers living on the outskirts of the Capital, Gandhi expressed in a social media post, “This effort to infringe upon the constitutional rights of farmers, villagers, and the impoverished will not prevail under any circumstances. This isn't merely land; it's the bedrock of their identity, heritage, and existence.”
“I will vigorously bring this matter to Parliament and strive for justice for every citizen of rural Delhi,” stated Gandhi.
He noted that the struggles of impoverished farmers throughout the nation resonated during his interactions with representatives from rural Delhi at the Jan Sansad.
“Under the guise of 'development,' the government is stripping away the rights of the underprivileged for the gain of the wealthy,” he said.
Addressing the conversations with farmers, Gandhi remarked that a coordinated effort is in motion to confiscate land from villages adjacent to Delhi, which is alarmingly serious.
“The UPA government enacted a robust land acquisition law to safeguard farmers' rights — one that considers their voluntary involvement and compensation,” he added.
Today, circumventing that very law, initiatives like Land Pooling are depriving villagers of their land, employment, and future — at times through coercive tactics and other times through deceit, he explained.
“This effort to infringe upon the constitutional rights of farmers, villagers, and the impoverished will not prevail under any circumstances. This isn't merely land; it's the bedrock of their identity, heritage, and existence,” he reiterated, pledging to bring this issue before Parliament.
