Mumbai, Aug 17 (NationPress) Gaurav Desai, the visionary behind the newly launched streaming series ‘Andhera’, believes that although the Indian audience has a strong affinity for horror content, creators and media are not producing sufficient material to satisfy audience cravings.
In a recent conversation with IANS during the promotional events for the series, Gaurav highlighted that OTT platforms have introduced an entirely new avenue for viewers to explore horror content from around the globe. While the entertainment sector has recognized the appeal of horror-comedy, creators still tend to avoid traditional horror elements.
He expressed to IANS, “Globally, there is a notable revival in horror, and I feel India has fallen behind in terms of genuine horror experiences. Audiences are consuming such content from various countries, and it is only recently that people have begun to realize the vast potential of horror. Otherwise, horror comedies are made sporadically.”
He also pointed out that horror serves as one of the most powerful genres for immersive storytelling.
He remarked, “Horror enables us to delve into the darker aspects of existence, not in a didactic manner, but in a way that is both entertaining and thrilling—it makes your heart race! I’d even say that it’s beneficial for your health; you get a workout just sitting at home (laughs)!”
‘Andhera’, set in Mumbai, revolves around Inspector Kalpana Kadam and Jay, a medical student who become embroiled in a missing-person investigation that reveals a malevolent force lurking beneath the city. The series contemplates the fictional scenario of “What if darkness comes to life?”. The cast includes Surveen Chawla, Priya Bapat, and Prajakta Koli.
Produced by Excel Entertainment and directed by Raaghav Dar, the series is streaming on Prime Video.
