Kunal Ghosh Critiques BJP Leaders as 'Political Tourists' in Bengal
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, March 4 (NationPress) Trinamool Congress member Kunal Ghosh expressed his discontent on Wednesday regarding the rising number of visits by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders from outside West Bengal as the Assembly elections approach. He referred to them as "political tourists," asserting that these actions would fail to sway the voters in the state.
In response to the influx of BJP leaders into West Bengal, Ghosh noted that such initiatives are not unprecedented and have historically produced minimal results.
"This is a common occurrence. They are political tourists; they come and go. They possess the funds for hotel accommodations and hence engage in this activity. In the 2021 elections, they boasted about 'Abki Baar 200 Paar,' yet they only managed 77 seats. Their numbers have now dwindled to 60, having suffered losses in the 2023 panchayat elections and all Zilla Parishads," he remarked.
Ghosh contended that the BJP's campaign strategy in the state emphasizes appearance over genuine community involvement.
“The promotional wall writings for the elections are merely photo opportunities. The content of those writings is often beyond their comprehension. The BJP is willing to do anything, even tarnish Bengal's reputation,” he alleged.
Additionally, he accused the BJP of engaging in conspiracies aimed at removing legitimate voters from the electoral lists.
“There is a plot to delete the names of authentic voters,” he claimed.
Addressing the topic of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Ghosh made grave accusations, asserting that this process has caused distress among both voters and electoral officials.
“There have been fatalities linked to the SIR list. A series of deaths has occurred, and the Election Commission of India and BJP bear responsibility. While genuine voters are facing harassment, panic, and even suicide, the BLOs are also under immense pressure. This is a complete ordeal,” he stated.
In his critique of the CPI-M, Ghosh labeled the Left party as the BJP's “B team” in the region.
“CPI-M lacks a coherent policy. They serve as the B team for the BJP. The votes that the BJP now receives once belonged to the Left. As the Left's support has waned, the BJP has seen a slight increase. However, the Trinamool Congress has not diminished in strength,” he asserted.
Emphasizing the leadership of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and party National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee, Ghosh asserted that the Trinamool Congress has consistently supported the people of Bengal.
“Under the guidance of Mamata Didi and Abhishek Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress has always stood by the public. The Left has been absent, never aligning with the people's interests,” he concluded.
