Kolkata, Feb 28 (NationPress) The former chief of the West Bengal Congress and past Lok Sabha member, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, has leveled accusations against the Trinamool Congress for allegedly registering several lakh bogus voters in the state through a private agency.

Interestingly, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also made similar claims during an extended organizational meeting of the Trinamool Congress in Kolkata on Thursday, accusing the BJP of manipulating the electoral rolls with the assistance of two private agencies.

Chowdhury criticized the Trinamool Congress for betraying the interests of the people of West Bengal and asserted that he possessed credible information indicating the presence of approximately 40 lakh bogus voters in the state, with lists allegedly compiled by the ruling party in collaboration with a private firm.

He stated that the voters’ lists are generated by state government employees. “If the Union government attempts to alter the voters' lists, the state administration should undoubtedly raise concerns, as we did in the case of Maharashtra. The reality is that West Bengal has turned into a hub of manipulation in every domain, including the voters’ lists,” Chowdhury remarked.

He further alleged that there are also manipulations in ballot boxes during local elections in West Bengal. “During the last elections for the three-tier panchayat system, there were reports of counterfeit ballot boxes being mixed with authentic ones. We also desire an error-free voters' list in the state so that only legitimate voters can participate,” he stated.

On Thursday, Mamata Banerjee accused the BJP of enlisting voters from other states such as Haryana, Gujarat, Bihar, Punjab, and Rajasthan with the help of two private agencies.

“They are connecting the names of voters from other states to the EPIC numbers of voters in West Bengal. Similar frauds were executed before the elections in states like Delhi, Maharashtra, and Haryana, which aided the BJP in their victories there. Other parties were unable to detect the deception. However, we in Bengal have recognized the scheme well in advance, and thus we will never permit this plot to succeed here,” the Chief Minister concluded.
