Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will inaugurate the official website of the Bhartiya Vyapar Mahotsav at a two-day national conclave of trade leaders being held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, organised by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT). The announcement was made on Sunday, 17 May, ahead of the conclave.

Who Is Attending and Why

The conclave will bring together approximately 150 prominent trade leaders, representatives of business associations, MSMEs, manufacturers, startups, and industry stakeholders from across the country. Deliberations will centre on the seven strategic steps announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in response to the evolving geopolitical environment and the continuing crisis in West Asia.

CAIT stated that the objective is to prepare a comprehensive roadmap for implementing the Prime Minister's proposed measures within the broader business community, and to reinforce the role of traders and domestic industry in building a resilient, self-reliant economy.

Key Focus Areas of the Conclave

Chandni Chowk MP and CAIT Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal said deliberations would address strengthening domestic supply chains, reducing logistics costs, promoting indigenous manufacturing, and increasing exports. The conclave will also examine expanding the use of railways and multimodal freight systems, as well as accelerating the adoption of digital trade practices.

Notably, trade leaders are expected to adopt a joint resolution backing the Prime Minister's vision of economic resilience, stronger domestic commerce, and self-reliance — signalling a coordinated push from organised trade bodies at a time of global supply-chain disruption.

The Bhartiya Vyapar Mahotsav Initiative

A centrepiece of the event will be the launch of the Bhartiya Vyapar Mahotsav website, a joint initiative of the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) and CAIT. The platform is designed to promote Swadeshi products, advance the 'Vocal for Local, Local to Global' campaign, and facilitate greater exports of Indian goods to international markets.

According to organisers, the Bhartiya Vyapar Mahotsav is envisioned as a nationwide movement to showcase India's manufacturing capabilities, traditional products, innovation ecosystem, and entrepreneurial strengths. The initiative is also expected to generate new business opportunities for MSMEs, artisans, women entrepreneurs, startups, and traders by linking them with domestic and global buyers.

India as a Global Sourcing Hub

The conclave will additionally deliberate on strategies to position India as a trusted global sourcing and supply-chain hub at a moment when several major economies are navigating disruptions from geopolitical tensions and trade uncertainties. This comes amid a broader government push to capture market share vacated by supply-chain realignments globally, particularly in manufacturing and exports. With India already ranked among the world's fastest-growing major economies, organised trade bodies view this conclave as a critical inflection point for translating policy intent into ground-level commercial action.
