Gujarat's 'Mari Yojana' portal unifies 680+ govt schemes for easy digital access
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Gujarat's 'Mari Yojana' digital governance initiative is transforming how residents of the state access public welfare schemes, bringing over 680 government programmes from departments spanning education, agriculture, health, social welfare, and employment onto a single online platform. The initiative is drawing attention for its reach into remote villages and far-flung locations that have historically struggled to connect with state services.
What the Portal Offers
The 'Mari Yojana' portal consolidates information on more than 600 schemes across key departments including social welfare, animal husbandry, women's development, rural development, revenue, and employment. Residents can now access land records, widow pensions, income certificates, birth and death certificates, domicile and caste certificates, pensions, and scholarships — all through a single digital interface, eliminating the need for multiple visits to government offices.
Two services in particular — AnyROR and iORA — have reportedly been instrumental in reducing queue times and simplifying access to essential records. Through AnyROR, residents can retrieve 7/12 land record extracts at any time, while iORA facilitates services such as succession certificates and life certificates.
Residents Speak: Real-World Impact
Girish Nilgiri, a local beneficiary, described the portal's processes as straightforward and efficient. "Whether it is obtaining a 7/12 land record extract, applying for a widow's pension, securing an income certificate, or obtaining a senior citizen certificate — all these tasks are completed easily and in very little time," he said.
Another beneficiary, Tushar Kumar Patel, echoed the sentiment. "We are receiving a very positive response to the online services, such as iORA and AnyROR. Through AnyROR, we can access 7/12 land records at any time, which eliminates the need to stand in long queues and saves time. Similarly, services on the iORA portal — such as obtaining succession certificates or life certificates — have become extremely convenient," he stated.
The e-Governance Significance
The 'Mari Yojana' model represents a broader push by the Gujarat government to make administrative processes simpler, transparent, and time-efficient. This comes amid growing national emphasis on digital public infrastructure, with states increasingly competing to improve last-mile delivery of welfare entitlements. Gujarat's approach — aggregating multiple departmental schemes under one platform — mirrors best practices emerging from India's broader e-governance agenda.
Notably, the penetration of these services in rural and remote areas of Gujarat marks a meaningful shift from earlier models that required beneficiaries to physically visit district or taluka offices, a barrier that disproportionately affected the elderly, women, and daily-wage earners.
What Comes Next
With the platform already hosting schemes from departments as diverse as animal husbandry and revenue administration, further expansion in scheme coverage and user accessibility is widely anticipated. The initiative's success in Ahmedabad and other urban centres, alongside its reported traction in remote villages, positions 'Mari Yojana' as a replicable model for digital welfare delivery across India.
