Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Gandhinagar, Feb 12 (NationPress) A total of 70 urban gardens have been successfully created in various municipal areas across Gujarat under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0. Additionally, 61 more gardens are currently in the pipeline, as part of an extensive initiative aimed at enhancing green spaces and upgrading urban infrastructure, as reported by officials on Thursday.
As per official reports, a cumulative of 131 gardens are being established in urban localities throughout the state with an approximate investment of Rs 117.56 crore.
This project is part of AMRUT 2.0, which was inaugurated on October 1, 2021, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure that cities become water-secure and self-sufficient.
The mission encompasses the rejuvenation of water bodies, minimizing Non-Revenue Water, and encouraging the reuse of treated wastewater, alongside developing green public areas.
In Gujarat, the focus of the program is on revitalizing barren and underutilized municipal gardens while also establishing new parks.
For instance, in Lathi municipality, located in Amreli district, Bhavani Garden has been refurbished at a cost of Rs 1.26 crore, spanning an area of 10,936.35 square meters.
This garden, which had previously fallen into neglect, has been brought back to life while preserving existing trees and planting native species along walkways and borders to foster bird habitats.
Facilities in Bhavani Garden include an open lawn, a children's play area, an outdoor gym, and designated spaces for yoga and a knowledge center.
A stunning fountain sculpture featuring white horses has also been installed.
In a similar vein, Kailas Vatika Garden in Palanpur municipality, Banaskantha district, has undergone redevelopment, costing Rs 2.25 crore, covering an area of 10,000 square meters.
This park features children's play equipment, seating arrangements, gazebos, and accessibility options for individuals with disabilities.
Officials indicated that the establishment of parks, gardens, and public green spaces is aimed at enhancing urban air quality, broadening green cover, and supporting ecological balance in densely populated regions.
The integration of local flora aims to bolster biodiversity while reducing water usage and long-term maintenance demands.
The remaining 61 gardens under the Rs 117.56 crore initiative are at various stages of completion throughout the state.
