The Handicrafts Exhibition-2026 was organized by the Union Ministry of Textiles in collaboration with the Madhya Pradesh State Cooperative Federation Limited, Bhopal, and was inaugurated by Guna Collector Kishore Kumar Kanyal at Pratap Hostel on Monday.
The event saw participation from artisans representing Hyderabad, Bihar, Jaipur, Delhi, Agra, Bengaluru, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and other states. The exhibition showcased a variety of traditional handicrafts, giving local artisans an opportunity to connect with new customers and promote India’s rich cultural heritage.
Among those present at the inauguration were Abhishek Dubey, Chief Executive Officer of the District Panchayat, Guna, and Amit Sahare, Assistant Director, Handicraft Development Commissioner, Handicraft Service Centre, Gwalior. The opening ceremony was also attended by several officials and local citizens.
A broad spectrum of handmade products was showcased at the stalls, including jute bags, zari work, embroidery, bamboo crafts, Kalamkari products from Hyderabad, and handicrafts from Bihar. Other highlights included tassel meenakari work from Jaipur, jewelry from Delhi and Agra, Kushia work from Dehradun, paintings from Bengaluru, and clay and crockery products from Rajasthan.
The exhibition also featured carpets, bedsheets, beadwork, toran art, leather art, date palm crafts, wooden toys from Madhya Pradesh, and other traditional items from West Bengal, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Nagpur, Rajasthan, Jodhpur, Uttar Pradesh, Varanasi, Gujarat, and more.
During his visit, Collector Kishore Kumar Kanyal examined the various stalls set up at the exhibition. He instructed the organizers to ensure that the names of the artisans, along with their respective states, are prominently displayed so that visitors can recognize the origin of each product and appreciate the work of the artisans.
The attractive display of handicraft items at the exhibition garnered positive feedback from attendees. Special attention was given to promoting the event widely to encourage local handicrafts and familiarize the public with India’s traditional art, culture, and craftsmanship.
Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Jain urged the public to take full advantage of the handicrafts exhibition. He announced that the fair would run until February 16, open daily from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Pratap Hostel, Main Road, Guna.
In an interview with IANS, Guna Collector Kishore Kumar Kanyal remarked, “I see 50 stalls set up here. People have come from various states, and there are numerous artisans from Madhya Pradesh as well. I encourage everyone to come and appreciate their work.”
Shoppers at the fair also praised the initiative. Vinita Jain, a customer who visited Guna, commented, “It’s a commendable step by the government. We see participants from different states here selling their products.”
Neeraj Kumar Saini, a craftsman from Jaipur, stated, “It is a highly commendable initiative by the government to promote Vocal for Local. It emphasizes making and selling within our own country. This is a significant step by the government.”
Recounting his personal journey, Shakun Thakur, a craftsman from Nagpur, shared, “I began my handicraft work with just ₹7,000. Now, that work is valued at ₹4 lakh. I am grateful to PM Modi and the government, as we also receive loans from them.”
Dr. Satish Sharma, a customer at the handicrafts fair in Guna, remarked, “It’s truly wonderful. With this, people will realize the talent that exists in India. It’s a fantastic initiative by the artisans.”
Biplab Jain, a shopper in Guna, expressed, “It’s a fantastic initiative. It provides an opportunity for artisans to sell their products. I thank PM Modi for this.”
Sevosi Dey, a craftsman from Bengal, mentioned, “I sell embroidery products crafted by hand. This initiative provides a great platform to sell our products across different states.”
