Dehradun, Aug 3 (NationPress) The women-led Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in Haldwani district, Uttarakhand, are actively crafting ‘silk rakhis’ in anticipation of the sacred Raksha Bandhan festival. Their creations have garnered attention not only within the state but also nationally due to their exquisite silk craftsmanship.
As a meaningful gesture, these women have dispatched a silk rakhi to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The silk rakhis are gaining widespread recognition and are in high demand across various parts of the country. The SHGs are also shipping ‘silk rakhis’ to locations such as Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Rajasthan, Lucknow, Gujarat, and Chandigarh.
Members of these SHGs have created special silk rakhis for PM Modi, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, and Agriculture Minister Ganesh Joshi, hoping to see them wear these rakhis on Raksha Bandhan.
This year, the SHGs have also seen a notable profit from their rakhi production.
“We have generated around Rs 15,000 in sales over the last few days. The response to these rakhis has been positive, leading to an increase in orders,” shared a member of the SHG.
Kiran Joshi, president of the Mahila Sahayata Samuh, noted that the women have dedicated months to creating rakhis, which has strengthened their economic status.
“There is a growing demand for these rakhis from other states. They are also eco-friendly,” she added.
Meanwhile, Hemchandra, Deputy Director of the Silk Department, highlighted that this initiative is helping the women of the SHG group become self-sufficient.
He also mentioned that such products are being produced for the first time in the country.
“The women of the Mahila Swayam Sahayata Samuh have achieved a business turnover of over Rs 9 lakh in just nine months,” he stated.
