Washington, March 1 (NationPress) Leaders from the Indian American community expressed starkly different opinions following the recent US and Israeli military operations against Iran. Former UN ambassador Nikki Haley referred to this as a “pivotal moment in history”, while New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani cautioned about the potential for “dire escalation”.

FBI Director Kash Patel indicated that federal authorities are on “high alert” to prevent any domestic threats.

Haley characterized the military strikes as both significant and necessary. “This is a pivotal moment in history, and it is also a moment that will define the legacy of President Trump and his administration,” she stated during an interview with Fox News.

“This was an action that had to be taken. Our thoughts are first with the innocent people on the ground,” she noted.

Describing the situation as “a struggle between good and evil,” Haley asserted that US military forces would have acted quickly to disrupt Iranian leadership communications and target missile launch systems. She emphasized that the strikes underscored the failure of diplomacy, saying, “They tried diplomacy, but the Iranian regime behaved as they always do—lying and cheating.”

Haley maintained that these military actions would convey a broader message. “Let’s not forget that China and Russia are observing this closely,” she remarked, suggesting that such demonstrations of strength would compel adversaries to reassess their views on the Trump administration.

Conversely, Mayor Mamdani expressed a starkly opposing perspective. “The military actions today against Iran by the US and Israel represent a serious escalation in an unlawful conflict,” he posted on X. “Bombing urban areas. Causing civilian casualties. Opening a new front in warfare. This is not what Americans want.”

Mamdani emphasized that voters are more concerned with domestic issues. “They are not seeking another war for regime change; they want solutions to the affordability crisis and a path to peace.”

In light of these developments, Mamdani stated that city officials were taking precautions. “I have been in communication with our Police Commissioner and emergency management teams to implement proactive measures, including enhanced coordination among agencies and increased patrols in sensitive areas,” he explained.

He also reached out directly to the Iranian American community. “You are integral to our city’s identity—neighbors, business owners, students, artists, workers, and community leaders. Your safety is our priority.”

On the federal level, Patel mentioned that the FBI is increasing its readiness. “Our personnel are fully focused on the international situation. Last night, I directed our Counterterrorism and intelligence divisions to maintain a high level of vigilance and mobilize all necessary security resources,” he remarked.
