Chandigarh, May 5 (NationPress) In a significant initiative to honor valor and assist armed forces members, the Haryana Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, approved a proposal on Monday to provide an ex-gratia payment of ₹1 crore to the next of kin of those who suffer a battle casualty. Additionally, a one-time cash award will be granted to both gallantry and distinguished award recipients from the Agniveer program in the state.

The government previously allocated ₹1 crore as ex gratia to the families of battle casualties in the defense and paramilitary forces and has now decided to extend this benefit to Agniveers.

Launched in 2022, the Agnipath scheme aims to recruit male and female candidates as Agniveers (non-officer ranks) in the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force for a four-year term. The first group of Agniveers joined the armed forces in August 2023, with a total of 5,120 Agniveers recruited from Haryana.

The Cabinet also approved the Haryana AI Development Project (HAIDP) for 2025-2028, which has a total budget of ₹474.39 crore. This initiative includes the formation of a special-purpose vehicle to implement externally funded projects.

The HAIDP aims to establish Haryana as a national hub for AI-driven development over three years, with technical and financial backing from the World Bank, following a funding model of 70:30 between the World Bank and the state government.

Furthermore, the Cabinet endorsed the repeal of the outdated British-era Municipal Account Code of 1930, introducing the Haryana Municipal Account Code of 2025 (Parts I and II) for all municipalities. This reform intends to enhance transparency in the accounting systems of municipal bodies in Haryana, as the 1930 code no longer meets the demands of modern changes and technological advancements.

Lastly, the Cabinet approved a proposal from the Gram Panchayat of Atali in Faridabad district to allocate a residential plot of 200 square yards to Geeta, the widow of Shaheed Naik Sandeep, who sacrificed his life during a counter-insurgency operation in Pulwama on February 19, 2019. The proposal was accepted in light of the family's circumstances and inadequate housing, serving as a special acknowledgment of their sacrifice.

Point of View

The decision by the Haryana Cabinet to extend financial support to the families of Agniveers reflects a growing recognition of the sacrifices made by our armed forces. This measure not only honors valor but also reinforces the importance of supporting the families of those who serve the nation selflessly. As the nation continues to evolve, such initiatives are vital in fostering a sense of security and respect for our military personnel.
