Haryana CM Slams AAP Government in Punjab for Freebie Politics
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chandigarh, March 9 (NationPress) Haryana's Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab for engaging in "freebie politics" as elections approach, stating that the residents are growing increasingly disenchanted with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's administration.
During a press briefing, CM Saini asserted that the citizens of Punjab are disillusioned with the current government's policies and are actively seeking alternatives as the next elections draw near.
In response to the Punjab government's budget declaration to grant Rs 1,500 to women from the Scheduled Category (SC) and Rs 1,000 to other women, he remarked that such pledges are strategically timed with the forthcoming Assembly elections.
However, he expressed skepticism about the political impact of these promises, suggesting that the electorate in Punjab has already decided to pursue a change in governance.
CM Saini highlighted that both previous Congress governments and the current AAP administration share a legacy of making populist commitments and distributing "freebies" during election cycles.
He also directed criticism at former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, noting that similar to his election strategies, the Bhagwant Mann government would likely face a comparable fate in the upcoming Assembly elections.
Further, the Chief Minister pointed out that when Punjab residents approach him, they voice concerns regarding the state government's obstruction of the Ayushman Bharat scheme, initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which has hindered many eligible beneficiaries from accessing its benefits.
He lamented that the Mann administration has repeatedly attempted to obstruct programs during his recent visits to Punjab.
CM Saini affirmed that whenever the Punjab Chief Minister visits Haryana, he is given full respect according to the protocol befitting a Chief Minister.
Additionally, he expressed alarm over reports of tear gas being deployed against female employees protesting for their rights on International Women’s Day, labeling the incident as profoundly regrettable.
He noted that such actions convey a negative message, particularly on a day dedicated to honoring and acknowledging the rights and contributions of women.
