Chandigarh, March 27 (NationPress) Haryana's Chief Minister, Nayab Singh Saini, announced on Friday that a staggering 480,000 electronic challans were issued last year for vehicles exceeding speed limits on National Highway 44, stretching from Kundli in Sonipat to Shambhu in Ambala. He highlighted that the state has deployed 128 advanced surveillance cameras along this highway.

While inaugurating a two-day national seminar on 'Road Safety Solutions', hosted by the Indian Roads Congress in collaboration with the Public Works Department, the Chief Minister revealed that the government has introduced the Sanjaya application, developed in partnership with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras. This innovative tool aims to assist in managing and analyzing road accident data to mitigate the occurrence of such incidents.

He emphasized ongoing efforts to enhance road safety through the identification of high-risk areas, modernization of traffic management systems, implementation of awareness campaigns, and the incorporation of cutting-edge technologies.

Over 350 professionals, including experts, engineers, researchers, policymakers, and academicians, alongside members of the Indian Roads Congress, are currently engaging in discussions surrounding crucial road safety topics.

CM Saini remarked that this seminar serves as a pivotal platform for devising a comprehensive roadmap for the nation's future. He stated, "Here, we will unite ideas, technology, experience, and dedication to advance India towards becoming a safer, stronger, and more developed nation."

He noted, "A road is not merely a physical structure; it represents the lifeline of development. It connects villages to cities, farmers to markets, youth to opportunities, and the nation to progress. However, it is disheartening that while roads facilitate development, road accidents pose a significant threat to society."

Expressing deep concern, the Chief Minister highlighted that countless individuals in India fall victim to road accidents annually, resulting in shattered families, unfulfilled aspirations, and irreparable losses to society.

"Thus, road safety transcends a technical issue; it embodies a social, human, and moral responsibility," he asserted. He underscored the importance of public awareness regarding traffic regulations.

"Effective traffic rules hold no value if they are not adhered to. Simple actions like wearing helmets, fastening seat belts, and respecting speed limits may seem trivial, yet they are lifesaving measures," he emphasized.

The Chief Minister called for heightened awareness about road safety among students, youth, and all segments of society.
