Chennai, March 11 (NationPress) The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued a forecast indicating substantial rainfall across several districts in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday.

The RMC predicts that Kanniyakumari, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, and Thoothukudi will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall today.

Furthermore, districts like Virudhunagar, Sivaganga, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Pudukkottai, and Ramanathapuram are also likely to witness significant rainfall.

In light of this forecast, local officials have advised residents to exercise caution.

A warning has been issued for fishermen in Kanyakumari, recommending they refrain from going out to sea.

The maximum temperature across Tamil Nadu is anticipated to be between 32°C and 33°C.

The current weather patterns are being influenced by an upper-air cyclonic circulation over the northeast Equatorial Indian Ocean and the adjacent southeast Bay of Bengal, reaching up to 5.8 km above mean sea level.

Another circulation over interior Tamil Nadu and surrounding areas, which was at 0.9 km, has since diminished.

However, these weather systems are expected to result in rainfall throughout the state over the next few days.

Tamil Nadu has recorded a 14% excess rainfall during the current northeast monsoon season, accumulating 447 mm of rainfall compared to the seasonal average of 393 mm.

Chennai has seen 845 mm of rainfall, which is 16% above its seasonal average. Meanwhile, Coimbatore experienced a 47% increase in rainfall compared to the norm.

This latest weather alert follows the devastation caused by Cyclone Fengal, which affected Tamil Nadu and Puducherry from November 29 to December 1.

The cyclone resulted in intense rainfall and heavy to very heavy showers due to a low-pressure system over the southern Bay of Bengal.

The impact of the cyclone was severe, leading to 12 fatalities and submerging 2,11,139 hectares of agricultural and horticultural land, inflicting significant losses on farmers, with over 69 lakh families and 1.5 crore individuals affected by this disaster.
