Hyderabad, Sep 18 (NationPress) A tragic incident unfolded late Wednesday night when a 27-year-old man was swept away by floodwaters in Hyderabad while attempting to return home on his motorcycle. This unfortunate event took place beneath the Balkampet bridge underpass in the city center, following another bout of heavy rainfall.

Mohammed Sharfuddin, who was on his scooter heading back to Kavadiguda, fell into the water that had accumulated under the bridge and was carried away.

Local youth later managed to recover his body, according to police reports. Sharfuddin worked for a company specializing in the manufacture of artificial limbs located in Balanagar. Like any other day, he was returning home from his job.

In response to a complaint from Sharfuddin’s family, the SR Nagar Police have initiated an investigation.

Sharfuddin marks the fourth victim of floodwaters in the city this week. Earlier, three individuals were swept away in overflowing drains during two separate incidents on Sunday night amid heavy rains, and their bodies have yet to be found.

Arjun (26) and his cousin Ramu (25) were carried off in flooding waters in Afzalsagar nala in Mallepally, while Dinesh (24) was swept away into a nala in Vinobha Nagar in the Musheerabad area of Secunderabad and remains missing.

Once again, heavy rainfall hit the city on Wednesday night, leading to severe flooding in roads and low-lying areas. Rainwater infiltrated homes in several neighborhoods, causing significant disruptions in vehicular traffic. Motorists were ensnared in traffic jams lasting up to 3-4 hours due to extensive waterlogging.

The Motilal Nehru Nagar colony in Begumpet faced significant flooding, making it impossible for residents to venture outside as rainwater filled the basements of apartment complexes and houses. Residents of the old CBI quarters in Khairatabad also endured a restless night as water flooded their residences.

In light of the recent heavy rains in Hyderabad, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy urged authorities to remain vigilant. He ordered all department heads to collaborate effectively to prevent any hardships for the public.

The Chief Minister instructed the police, HYDRAA, and city traffic units to deploy teams to the flooded areas. The GHMC and Energy departments were also directed to commence immediate relief operations in affected regions.

He advised residents in low-lying areas to stay alert and avoid leaving their homes unless absolutely necessary.
