Tel Aviv, July 2 (NationPress) The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) announced on Wednesday that they successfully intercepted two separate attempts to smuggle weapons across the border with Egypt.

As per reports from security officials, a drone was detected attempting to transport arms into Israeli territory from Egyptian land. This drone was spotted on Tuesday.

According to a statement on X, "IDF observation posts in the Paran Brigade sector detected a drone last night (Tuesday) that crossed from Egyptian territory into Israeli territory in a bid to smuggle weapons. IDF personnel located the drone, which was carrying ten firearms, and seized them."

"Additionally, earlier today, members of the Paran Brigade noticed a suspicious vehicle in the sector, followed it, and apprehended the individual behind the wheel. Fourteen firearms were discovered within the vehicle, which was also confiscated by the forces," the report continued.

The suspect along with the recovered weapons was handed over to security forces for further investigation.

This incident occurs amid ongoing operations by the IDF across the Gaza Strip.

Earlier on Tuesday, the IDF reported that their soldiers eliminated numerous terrorists during close-quarter engagements in collaboration with the Israeli Air Force, effectively dismantling hundreds of terrorist infrastructure sites, which included operational centers, tunnel shafts, and hideouts used by terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip.

"The Paratroopers Brigade, under the command of the 36th Division, continues its operations in the Khan Yunis area of the Gaza Strip," it added.

Alongside the dismantling of surface terrorist infrastructure, troops are working with Yahalom Unit members to dismantle underground tunnel routes in the region.

The IDF reported that they have dismantled approximately 3 kilometers of branched underground tunnel routes used for conducting terrorist activities.
