Jerusalem, March 8 (NationPress) The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced in a statement that their Air Force conducted an airstrike on Saturday against individuals attempting to collect a drone in southern Gaza. It was reported that the drone "was being monitored" by Israel throughout its journey, which had crossed into Gaza from Israeli territory in what is believed to be an effort to smuggle weapons.

The IDF did not disclose the number of casualties involved.

According to the Israeli news outlet Ynet, the IDF is currently investigating the items that may have been smuggled into the Strip by the drone.

In recent months, there have been multiple incidents involving similar strikes against Gazans retrieving drones.

On Friday, at least two Palestinians reportedly lost their lives in an Israeli airstrike east of Gaza City, as per Palestinian sources, according to Xinhua news agency. They reported that an Israeli drone targeted a group of Palestinians in the Shuja'iyya neighborhood, east of Gaza City, with a missile.

Additionally, Israeli warplanes executed over 20 airstrikes on Friday evening targeting various locations in southern Lebanon, according to local media and security reports.

The Lebanese National News Agency stated that the aerial bombardment commenced at 9:15 pm (1915 GMT), striking valleys and the outskirts of towns and villages in southern Lebanon, without providing details on casualties.

A Lebanese security source informed Xinhua that the airstrikes were carried out "over a span of about 30 minutes, impacting forested areas and valleys within the districts of Tyre, Nabatiyeh, Sidon, and Jezzine, deep in southern Lebanon."

The IDF confirmed in a statement that it executed intelligence-driven strikes on Hezbollah military installations in southern Lebanon.

It emphasized that weapons and rocket launchers affiliated with Hezbollah were identified at these sites, which "posed a threat to Israel and represented a clear breach of the agreements between Israel and Lebanon."

"The IDF will persist in its operations to eliminate any threats to Israel and will thwart any attempts by Hezbollah to reestablish and strengthen itself," it added.

Since November 27, 2024, a ceasefire agreement mediated by the United States and France has been in effect, concluding more than a year of confrontations between Hezbollah and Israel, which were ignited by the conflict in Gaza.
