Bhubaneswar, Oct 1 (NationPress) The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning regarding the likelihood of very heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds that may reach speeds of up to 50 km/h in various regions of the state over the next few days. This comes as a result of a newly formed low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal.
The latest bulletin from the IMD indicates that the well-marked low-pressure area has intensified into a depression and is currently situated over the west-central Bay of Bengal, near the coast of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.
According to forecasts, this system is expected to further strengthen into a deep depression and make landfall along the Odisha and Andhra Pradesh coasts on October 3.
“It is highly likely to maintain a northwest trajectory, intensifying further into a deep depression and crossing the coast of Odisha and adjoining Andhra Pradesh between Gopalpur and Paradip during the early morning hours of October 3,” the IMD stated.
Heavy rainfall is anticipated across various districts in the state in the coming days.
The IMD has issued a red warning indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy falls and thunderstorms, along with gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 km/h in coastal districts such as Jagatsinghpur and Puri on October 2.
In addition, an orange alert has been declared for very heavy rainfall in several districts including Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Bolangir, and Dhenkanal on Thursday.
Furthermore, an orange warning has also been issued regarding heavy to very heavy rain in the districts of Nabarangpur, Nuapada, and Bargarh throughout October.
The low-pressure system is expected to cause significant rainfall across the state during this period.
The IMD has urged residents in districts under red and orange warnings to stay vigilant concerning weather updates and be ready to relocate to safer locations if necessary. It has also advised the suspension of fishing activities and movement of vessels in affected regions.
